Maui: Thursday and Friday, Dec. 18-19

I am constantly amazed by all the maintenance and upkeep that goes into keeping everything so beautiful here. Yesterday morning was the second time I stopped by landscapers while palm trees were being trimmed and branches and other debris were flying down from above. Can you spot the gentleman in the tree?
And below he's on his way down. Yikes! What a job!
On Thursday we drove down to Kama'ole Beach, #1 I think, near Kehei. A beautiful day to soak up the sun and enjoy the beauty.
Galen and JD playing catch.
I am not a water lover, in fact there are those who might declare that I am afraid of water. I don't mind going in up to my knees though. Well, everyone was way out there in the water and they thought old Aunt LeAnn should join them. Kathleen and Rachelle even came out to escort me. I am proud to say I got wet all the way up to my neck. JD had a little too much fun diving down and pretending to be a shark grabbing at my ankle. Why is it so much fun to make Aunt LeAnn scream? She knew it wasn't a shark, she just feared anything that might make her lose her footing! Well, the water felt great and perhaps Aunt LeAnn will go out again because that seemed to be where most of the laughs and good times were happening.

Back at the house, we were served some lovely appetizers while dinner was in the oven.
Steve and Rachelle with their delicious offerings.
Why, yes thank you very much. Uncle Will is very appreciative.
Appetizers with awesome people on the lanai while while the sky is lovely is a very good thing.
Stan enjoys practicing photography with the nightly sunsets.

Friday morning we debated about whether or not to make the drive to Haleakala, the volcano crater. It was covered with clouds and the weather forecast was not wonderful. We decided to go for it, leaving Steve and his family behind to do their own thing. We did not regret our decision. The weather could not have been better. When we stopped to get gas on the way up, I checked Facebook and saw an update on my school's webpage that there had been a lockdown at 8 a.m. because it was reported a student brought a gun. Within a few minutes, a paintball gun had been located and all was well. Oh my goodness! The last day before winter break! And here I was without a care in the world!

And while traveling along, how fun to get a pic of my baby from Christina! Look, he really is getting hair! Did I mention I got to FaceTime call him while on the beach yesterday? I miss the little guy!

While viewing this, a young man came up the trail and started singing, "Divided sky, the wind blow high." Then he looked at me and said, "Don't mind me, it's a religious thing." The song was apparently over. Hmmm.
Will (he is so cool)
Galen and Carol
Carol, looking things over
Not very good posers, me and Carol!
Decent posers after all. Galen, Carol, me and Will
On the way down, we enjoyed lunch at Kula Lodge, with lovely views, a fire burning in the fireplace and lots of Christmas decorations, including a cute little old lady in a wheelchair wearing a Santa hat. Well, she probably wasn't a decoration but looked very festive anyway.

We arrived back at the house to find burgers on the menu! With bacon, grilled pineapple and all the fixings!

I wish JD would develop some personality and energy or something!
The hot tub tonight just before I joined them!
I went up to the lanai to see if any other adults were going to come down to the hot tub and no one seemed interested. But JD went up and approached everyone. He got Steve to say that he'd come in if Galen did. It took some talking "Remember, yesterday you said you would come in tomorrow…" and eventually Galen caved in. That JD! He got in a little trouble violating the conditions of the water gun treaty with Will tonight. It took awhile but eventually Will had ahold of him in the pool and prepared to dunk him. But JD say, "Wait, I have to stop laughing!" Just how long would that take? Longer than Will could wait!  JD ended up dunking himself!

Another day of great beauty, sunshine and laughter.
